Super Busy Wednesday

We had a busy day – it started at 8:00 AM with a baseline mammogram for me.  Matthew went to the neighbor’s and had a ton of fun with his two buddies, V & W.  He woke up just before needing to go down there and downed his morning milk in the bathroom while I got dressed.

We then road-tripped to Omaha, just Matthew and me, to see my parents and grandpa.  My parents’ birthdays are this week – one yesterday and one tomorrow, so we headed back to take them to lunch.  We had a terrific lunch and Matthew shocked everyone at the restaurant with how much he can eat (it is a great thing, you guys, but man – he eats a lot and it’s hard to keep food in front of him.  I hardly had a moment to eat myself, and it was one of my favorite restaurants in Omaha!).  We saw a mama dear and her two babies in my parents’ yard and they were quite tame, and came right up to the deck for Matthew to visit with them.  It was actually quite unreal.  I left the camera in my pocket because I didn’t want to spoil the moment.  Matthew loved them – just loved them and talked very quietly to them.  So sweet!

Matthew slept for an hour on the way down, and over an hour on the way back.  This worked out quite well!  I listened to Glee  😉

Then we came home and had a veggie/fruit dinner that didn’t go so well.  Matthew tossed his entire plate of carrots on the floor in a fit of rage.  I could care less if he eats the carrots or not (he ate a ton of veggies at lunch), but I wish he wouldn’t throw his plate.  I know it’s because he doesn’t have his words yet, so I was firm with the “no no!” and then took him out of his chair and let him play.  I was not rewarding his fit with “dessert.”  I then loaded him up again 15 minutes later and he enjoyed is dessert of nectarines (as did I!).

Then, Matthew figured out how to climb the ledge by our fireplace.  I turned around and he was standing on it, proud as could be.  HA!  He understands, “sit down,” now so he got down on his bottom and then panicked because he couldn’t figure out how to get off the ledge.  His toes were just an inch or so above the carpet but I think he thought he was up way higher and didn’t want to take the leap of faith.  😉  I just let him figure it out and when he got down, he applauded himself (as did I) and now he applauds every time he gets down from there.  Good stuff!

And then we took some photos together because we have not done that in a really, really long time!

Matthew still smells like salmon from lunch.  Time for a bath!

The Monday Snapshot – Silence!

There was nothing but silence coming from Matthew’s room for some time, which usually means he’s up to no good  😉

He emptied his book bin (behind the chair) and the box of wipes.  When I came in, he was sitting on the floor reading “The Thinks you can Think” with a wipe in each hand.

Before and After

Matthew can eat.  And eat.  And eat.  People keep telling me that babies know when they’re full and will stop eating, but we’re not sure that that’s the case with this particular child.  He seems to play with his food when he’s winding down, but he’ll still eat if you put something new in front of him.

This has caused me much concern because I don’t want to do anything to cause my child to have a weight problem.  I weigh Matthew a couple of times a month to make sure I’m not plumping him up unnecessarily, and the scale tells me I’m not.  Heck, his clothes tell me the same thing.  If it weren’t for his cloth diapers, his 12-18  month shorts wouldn’t stay up.  His 100% PALEO diet is treating him very well (so why, then, can’t I get back on the wagon?).

Matthew is starting to be picky about what he eats, but will eat plenty (and plenty more) of the foods he loves.  He usually loves carrots, he could live on all fruits, he devours cottage cheese (of the whole milk variety = so good!) and plain baby yogurt, and he inhales avocados and tomatoes.  He will pretty much eat any meat you put in front of him – in fact – we have not found a meat/fish/poultry item he won’t eat with great gusto.  He does not like green beans or zucchini and will turn his nose up at them if you even think of putting them on his plate.  Besides those two veggies, he seems to eat everything.

I wonder if we feed him too much food.

You tell me.

Before (half a chicken breast, 1/4 avocado, 1 medium carrot, 2 brocoli/cauliflower flowerets):

During (“Yummy!”):

After (1/2 carrot, 1 brocoli/cauliflower floweret) – and all of this was picked up off the floor:

I am so proud of how he eats, but I am exhausted after every meal.  Keeping up with him – keeping food on his plate – can make a person crazy.  He eats fast like his mother and doesn’t like to see an empty plate.  HA!

(side-note – I am going to be out of town this weekend, attempting to purchase a vehicle.  I will be reading your posts but not commenting because commenting via phone is insanely difficult.)

All is Well!

Hello, Friends!

I wanted to let you all know that we’re good.  B and I are great – after a long day of trouble and some tears caused by unethical people, and a pep talk from “Dear Old Dad” who said, ‘B is a wonderful person who we all love and this is harder on him than it is on you,’ we have moved past “the situation” and are enjoying our weekend together.

I didn’t want anyone thinking that I’m torturing B with tears and angst over “the situation.”  HA!  Our very good friends loaned us one of their cars for the week (she can’t drive because she just had her first baby – YAY!), and we greatly appreciate that.  It looks like I may have a new vehicle by the end of the week, if all works out well, and that’s a good thing.  Great friends, a wonderful baby toddler, and each other… what else can one gal really ask for (besides Diet P.ep.si)?

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!  It’s raining here… but that’s alright.  Matthew is back in jammies and playing around the house with B and the kitties.  We had one of the cuter moments of Matthew’s toddlerhood just today.  I put him in some new jammies with a huge dinosaur on the front, and he seemed to like them.  I said, “go show Daddy your new jammies,” and he sprinted out of the room, turned the corner and stopped in his tracks, and squeeled at B to look.  He was standing there with his hands in the air, with the biggest sh*t-eating grin on his face.

Great way to end a long weekend!  (I forot it was Monday, and was looking forward to posting my Memorable Moment tomorrow.  But it’s today.  So this will be that moment!)

“I love my new jammies!”

Calendar

I got my FET calendar in the mail today.  I flipped immediately to the transfer day.  I was wrong.  I am sort of sick about this.

October 12th is Matthew’s day.  I’m not ready to share it with anyone else.

If this works, they will have the same due date.  I will have a scheduled C-section – and their birthdays will be a couple days apart.

I could cry.  I know beggars can’t be choosers, but this makes me sad.

B, on the other hand, thinks it may be good luck.  Yeah, most of his glasses are half-full  😉

Memorable Moment Monday – Cat Scratch Fever

Ugh.  We had company over last night and our social cat, Jackson, wanted to be close to everyone.  I told our visitors that he’s usually pretty good with the kids and will just move if they’re bothering him, which is true.  I forgot that he does not move when we have company though – because he really, really likes having visitors.  Right after I said that he can be trusted, Matthew got swiped – and it was bad.  He bled right away and it bled for a long time.  He looked like Frankenstein – the slash was perfectly horizontal on his forehead, about 2.5 inches long, with long drips coming from it along the entire length of it.  AWFUL!  He was unfazed, thank God.  We were horrified.

Jackson still resides here ;), but he was on our sh*t list last night, that’s for sure.  I usually defend him but there was nothing to defend this time.

It looks much better today than yesterday.  And you may also notice a skinned knee in this photo?  That’s a first!  He’s getting so big!

Road Trip Hangover

Matthew had a roadtrip hangover today – like – badly!  He woke up after just 9.5 hours of sleep at 6:50  because we kept him up too late.  We let him stay up last night to play with B since he missed him so much.  That was sweet and all – but not good for the boy.  When he emerged from his room this morning, he seemed deflated that he didn’t have a room full of cousins to play with.  Sigh.  😦  Good thing I had a play date already setup for him!  There were tears this morning over absolutely EVERYTHING (no friends to play with, not enough food (really, he had plenty!), he finished his milk and wanted more, the kitties weren’t accessible, you-name-it!).  Mornings like this make me sad because there’s nothing I can do to cheer him up.   Bottom line was that he was bored with just me, he was snotty as all get-out, and he was tired.  So, so, so very tired.

I didn’t let Matthew nap.  I needed to get him back on his regular schedule.  He only napped for 45 minutes TOTAL while we were at my sister’s, and I needed to get him back to his 2.5-3.5 hour daily nap.  I kept him up until 12:30 which just made things worse for him.  We went on our play date at 11:30 and he cried the whole time because, yes, he was tired.  My neighbor (the one whose door I knocked on to introduce myself months ago and we’ve been buddies ever since) was totally understanding, thank goodness, and even offered to keep him for me for a few minutes so I could go get lunch for myself.  I didn’t torture her by taking her up on that offer!

Matthew cried through his naptime books until I finally tossed them aside and snuggled him.  He was out in less than a minute and he slept 2.5 hours – and so did I!  It was wonderful.  It was glorious!

And then he woke up.  Pissy.  Again.

Poor Matthew was obviously not yet caught up on his sleep but it was an improvement so we went out to finally get Mama some food!  We sold my soul to the devil and went to Chick-Fil-We-Hate-Gays and had some wonderful chicken (seriously – I hate one of their corporate values but really love their chicken as well as all the nice people they employ there!) and Matthew yelled at me as his food supply dwindled.  This child does not know when he’s full – we’ve come to this conclusion.  He ate 6 grilled nuggets, applesauce, and some yogurt and I had to rush him out of there because he was screaming at me for more food – and I didn’t have any to give him!  Sweet Jesus!

We went to Tar.get where he FINALLY relaxed because I pushed the cart (with him in it) ahead of me and then would run up to catch it – acting like he was getting away from me.  Serious laughter and fun with that little game.  I looked like a fool, but my kid was happy and that made me happy!  I love buying him random toys when we go to Tar.get together so I was on the hunt for something fun!  He loves music so I bought him a cute little percussion instrument set, hoping that he would love it as much as the plain balls I bought him at the consignment event for $5.  HA!

We then went to DQ for a blizzard because, well, there really is no reason.  I wanted it – it’s that simple.  And it was good.  So very good!

We came home, unpacked the new toy (that took 5 minutes because it was packaged like it contained narcotics or something equivalent), had a snack, and played with the drum set.  He loves it!  He really just loves the sticks and egg shakers but he played with all the instruments and I think he’s going to just love it more and more!  I then took my sweetie for a wagon ride and that put the cherry on his sundae!  Pure bliss!  We visited with the neighbors until B got home, played some more, bathed the boy, and put him to bed too late (again).

And then I re-themed my blog.

The day ended well for us both!  I’m hoping tomorrow is better though  😉
