Memorable Moment Monday – Cat Scratch Fever

Ugh.  We had company over last night and our social cat, Jackson, wanted to be close to everyone.  I told our visitors that he’s usually pretty good with the kids and will just move if they’re bothering him, which is true.  I forgot that he does not move when we have company though – because he really, really likes having visitors.  Right after I said that he can be trusted, Matthew got swiped – and it was bad.  He bled right away and it bled for a long time.  He looked like Frankenstein – the slash was perfectly horizontal on his forehead, about 2.5 inches long, with long drips coming from it along the entire length of it.  AWFUL!  He was unfazed, thank God.  We were horrified.

Jackson still resides here ;), but he was on our sh*t list last night, that’s for sure.  I usually defend him but there was nothing to defend this time.

It looks much better today than yesterday.  And you may also notice a skinned knee in this photo?  That’s a first!  He’s getting so big!

This is part of PAIL’s Memorable Moment Monday

Author: Courtney

Hi, there, I’m Courtney. I never planned to stay home with my kids, but I got sucked into motherhood when my first baby came into our lives after years of infertility and multiple rounds of IVF. His brother followed closely behind, something we didn’t plan on after having such a rough road with achieving parenthood the first time around. My boys are IVF cycle twins, conceived on the same day but born two years and one day apart (they were both transferred on the same day in October, but with two years between them). My boys are the best of friends and my husband is a terrific husband, father, and most importantly… friend. He fully supported my desire to stay home (“I just wanted it to be your idea and not mine, I totally want you to stay home and raise our kids!”) and encourages me in everything I do. I am a lover of projects, spreadsheets, fitness, healthy cooking and eating, crafts, selling my stuff on FB (HA!), and the outdoors. If I’m active, I’m pretty darn happy!

  1. Oh no!!! I’m waiting for my dogs to hurt Alex – I know it will happen sometime soon…

  2. Oh my!!! I would go completely berserk! We went to visit my sister on Saturday and her new dog was a play biter, and wouldn’t stop, kept running up to my baby and biting her feet and legs. You know, you don’t exactly want to smack someone else’s dog, but he would NOT stop biting her and if I pushed him away or anything, he’d just bite me and hurry to try and get back to the baby. My sister laughed and was all “Well of course he wants to bite those cute little feet.” I almost punched her. LOL. Finally I said to the dog, in my angry voice, “If you touch my child again, I’m gonna beat the hell out of you.” (Though of course, I wouldn’t really… at least I dont think so ;)) and that finally got my sister off her ass to take control of her dog… though she was offended by it, but really? Who allows their dog to bite anyone? Especially a baby, who is crying because it keeps getting bitten? Ridiculous. And long winded. LOL. Sorry. Anyway, needless to say, we won’t be visiting there again until that dog dies or gets better manners. 🙂

  3. Never trust a cat! (I’m not a cat person). Our dog snapped at the baby once, but probably because BJB was trying to make him like a horse. Usually he just knocks HGB over because he is so dumb. The dog, I mean! 🙂

  4. Oh no, poor little guy!! We have tons of pets and no problems yet but I am nervous something could happen someday, no matter how well-behaved I think they are.

  5. Oh, oops! Poor kid! Looks like he wasn’t too traumatized though. 🙂

  6. Oh- I would have been livid! He sure is adorable, even with his battle scars 🙂 We have 4 dogs and while they are still my babies, they are on my shit list a LOT. Thankfully not for hurting the little guy, but just being a lot of work and really annoying- ha!

    • We couldn’t be livid – we had company. HA! I did almost cry… but… Matthew didn’t even notice it. If he didn’t notice it, then I clearly had to relax, right?

Four dogs is a lot, lady!

  7. He is growing up so quickly! Even in a few short months. I have been stressing with dogs and been slack so this reminds me not to letting guard down….

    • I am terrible when it comes to animals because I trust them all – even the ones I don’t know. B is a good one to remind me that Matthew is fragile and one bite from a dog can change his life forever. So true.

  8. I used to say if my dogs ever snapped at the kid, the kid would be the one to have to go…I have since changed. I worry my girl dog who is visually impaired might snap at Raegan, but I’ve noticed how careful the dog is around Raegan…Maybe I don’t have to worry. My bot dog accidentally scratched Raegan trying to jump over her to avoid falling on her….he’s just dumb…i’m not a cat person, but I’m glad you didn’t automatically get rid of him….but it is the first strike, right?

Your little man looks so big in that chair…

    • This is strike #5 or #6. HA! Honestly, Matthew won’t leave them alone so we’re lucky he hasn’t been hurt worse. My dad is itching for us to give him this cat (we have 3), but we don’t see that happening. We need to trim his nails more often – that we know for sure!

  9. Look how big Matthew looks in that chair!! Oh my gosh!

Poor little (big!) guy with the scratches and the skinned knee. Sofi got a skinned knee while out on Sunday and I didn’t even realize it until we got to our destination and somebody said, “Is Sofi bleeding?” Whoops!!

  10. big cute boy! stupid cat! my dog is mostly so, so good with L, but it’s only when he’s super excited and he’s just not careful that something happens. It’s always amazing how much more it traumatizes the parents than the kids.
