(Almost) Wordless Wednesday – He’s Here!

Bryson (still needs a middle name) arrived early this morning weighing 9 pounds, 6.8 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches long. He is a great little nurser so far and excellent at self-soothing. His brother has given him countless kisses, but none to me. Not because he’s upset, but because he’s so busy and I can’t keep up with him. 😉

I’m feeling great! This c-section was way easier than the last one. I’ll write more later, but there was something found with my uterus that would have caused “a catastrophic rupture” had I tried a VBAC or even labored too long before an emergency c-section. I have never been so thankful that we chose the safest route for our son and for me. Whew! I look at Bryson and thank god/fate/whatever that he waited for our scheduled date to make his appearance!

And here he is…. For now!

THIS Moment in Time (#17)

We are at the Exotic Driving Experience at the Disney Speedway. Matthew and I are waiting for B to come out and drive a super car, the Nissan GTR. This isn’t a dream that I think B has even had, because I’m not sure he ever thought it would be possible. This is one of those things that you make your husband do as he’s vacillating back and forth on the cost. I was insistent!! There was no question in my mind – B was going to do this!

So here we are, waiting, and watching others ride along in a NASCAR, which Matthew thinks is pretty awesome!!!

The Monday Snapshot – First Day of Spring

The first day of spring may have technically been March 20th, but as far as I’m concerned, it was Friday!  This time last year, taking daily walks was part of our routine.  This year, it’s been too cold.  On Friday, it was beautiful outside so after a nap strike, I decided we were going to the park!  We were there for an hour – and it was the best hour of our week!  The only thing that would have made it better would have been if B could be there too (he was flying home from an overnight trip to NYC for work – ugh!).  We sent him this picture (and many more) to help him feel like he wasn’t missing out!  (B took Matthew to the park the next day!)

Slowing him down for a quick photo!

The Monday Snapshot – Perfect Birthday!

Yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day, also known as my birthday around here. B invited my closest friends over for breakfast and birthday cake, which was super fun! It was a low-key morning of good food and good friends, and Matthew thoroughly enjoyed himself with all the big kids that came by. You would have thought it was his birthday party, he was so excited! Every time the doorbell rang, he’d run to the door screaming, “Who is it?” So fun! After everyone left, Matthew took an easy, 2.5 hour nap before an early dinner and errands. It was a simple, perfect way to spend my 37th birthday! Matthew’s awesome gift to me was an on-time bed time with no fuss. Of course, he woke up unusually early at 4:50 this morning, but that was today and not yesterday. 😉

The Monday Snapshot – Snow!

We got a small blast of winter on Thursday night.  We were told by the weather alerts to prepare for 7-9 inches of snow, then 6-8 inches, then 5-7 inches.  We ended up with under 5 inches, but it was still enough for us to hire out the scooping of the driveway (because our snow blower broke the last time we used it), for B to go snowshoeing with his buddy from work, and for Matthew to go out and touch the snow a bit.  It was a BEAUTIFUL day today – sunny and bright!  Matthew had worn a coat but we took it off as we loaded him up in the car after our last stop this morning.  It was plenty warm and sunny for him to go check out the snow for a few minutes before going inside for his nap.

The first step into the snow before he TOOK OFF into it!

What cute little hands - he did this all on his own without prompting!

The Monday Snapshot – Love!

We had a rough day yesterday.  I woke up just in an awful mood.  I hadn’t slept most of the night due to discomfort (I ordered my pregnancy pillow just yesterday) and Matthew woke up a bit early.  I was so exhausted, and had a splitting headache, all damned day.  B went to the gym while Matthew napped and when Matthew woke up early from his nap, I started a text assault on my poor husband, complaining about him being gone so long.  Once the messages were sent, I realized that my issue is exhaustion and fear – B is going to be out-of-town two nights this week and I fear how those nights will go if Matthew is tired and grumpy.  When B got home, he encouraged met to go out on my own but that’s not what I wanted – or needed.  I just needed to cry.  And I did.  Twice.

After that, I felt much better and suggested we all go to Sch.eels to look at DUCKS and the MOOSE!  I’m not one for taxidermied animals (I’m not one for killing animals for anything more than providing food for one’s family, but I digress), but Matthew loves looking at all of the stuffed animals and we needed some family time.

It’s just what I needed!

You can call me Donna Reed.  Well, maybe Betty Crocker instead.  Let me explain.  I’m on a retro food kick in a big way.  And just so I don’t offend anyone, I’m calling retro foods anything that reminds me of my childhood as well, so I’m throwing myself under the bus too when it comes to age!  I opted for the Betty Crocker reference instead of Mrs. Reed because she was supposed to represent the picturesque housewife with the perfectly coiffed hair, pressed apron, and sassy little pumps who flitted about a perfectly clean and tidy little home.  Hmmmm.  Hair – I have some.  Apron – I have one.  It is stuffed in the back of my entryway closet.  Pumps?  I like slippers better.  And clean and tidy home?  A for effort?  Betty Crocker was probably perfect too, now that I’m thinking about it.  Whatever.  Call me JB.
