Matthew loves citrus fruits, especially extra sour ones. We can’t get beverages with limes or lemons anymore without fully expecting him to Bogart the garnish! He doesn’t just like to try them – he likes to devour them!

The Monday Snapshot… How Much Longer?
How much longer is he going to reach for my hand like this, so willingly, for help? I couldn’t help but wonder that as I felt compelled to snap this quickly last week.

The Monday Snapshot – Finished!
I just got notified that these signs are on their way to us. WE CANNOT WAIT TO GET THEM! The painter is booked, bedding is purchased, decals are in the works, and signs are done! This room will be done before we know it!
The Monday Snapshot – Keeps Us Guessing in the Food Department
With Matthew, you never know what he’s going to eat. Some days, he loves grilled (never, EVER fried) chicken, some days, he refuses it. Most days though, I think he’d rather have anything OTHER THAN grilled chicken because that’s all he ever gets when we eat out (this, of course, does not include Pane.ra salad chicken, which he NEVER refuses). What’s so aggravating to me is that I always box up the refused ($6) chicken and bring it home, in hopes he’ll eat it later. And sometimes he does, and most times, he does not. When he refuses it, it becomes chicken for my spinach salad which works out great… but even I get tired of grilled chicken ;)Today was one of those days when I wanted to GET.OUT.OF.THE.HOUSE for lunch, but we had so many leftovers in the fridge that it made no sense. I mean, really, what is so good out that is worth letting food go bad? NOTHING. We had leftover pizza from my cousin’s visit Wednesday night (too old – needed to be tossed), leftovers from Matthew’s lunch on Friday (you guessed it – un-touched grilled chicken), AWESOME leftovers from Friday’s dinner out (NY strip of B’s, and veggie pizza of mine – yes – it had gluten), and veggie leftovers from last night’s dinner (mashed sweet potatoes and steamed broccoli).
I figured that Matthew would want the steak. I figured right! He ate all of the broccoli before I even got to the table and was working on the steak before I gave him the mashed sweet potatoes. We can’t give mashed cauliflower, sweet potatoes, or parsnips to him at the same time as the other food that we desperately want him to eat, or he’ll just focus on the mashed yummies. HA! After he finished his first helping of steak, I gave him more steak and also the mashed sweet potatoes – and he didn’t leave a single bite of the veggies for me to even try. I think he ate probably 4 ounces or so of steak – it was ALL gone.
And then? He ate the rest of the chicken that I was munching on. He asked for it, I let him try it, and then he signed for more. I just don’t get it… but I’ll take it! He can refuse his cod tonight – that’s just fine – because he has had plenty of meat for the day! But I do have high hopes for the cod (B is a master when it comes to cooking fish!).

“We need to go to the store after this, because this does NOT count as fruit. But I’m going to eat it as my dessert anyway!”

The Monday Snapshot – Laundry Day
One of my favorite things in the world is this:
This is how we dry all of the jeans in our house – and seeing this once a week makes my heart happy. I love nothing more than a cute little boy in a pair of jeans! Matthew wears jeans every.single.day and I love it. My friends tease me that he always looks like a snappy little man, ready to go out on some social event (which, he usually is – he is his father’s child after all!). I don’t know what it is about jeans on this kid, but I look forward to picking out his clothes every day and seeing his cute little butt in whatever jeans I pick out!
I am excited that Wilson will get to wear all of these jeans too. We both buy jeans for this boy, because we both love seeing him in them, so we have a lot for Wilson to get use out of. As we’ve bought them over the last 20+ months, I’ve wondered if we’re wasting money, but apparently not. Truth be told, I would put most of them on a girl too, but it’s fun knowing that another little boy’s cute butt is going to fill them out before I know it!

The Monday Snapshot – Rare Photo!
Matthew has become difficult to photograph. He’s not uncooperative, per se, but he just won’t pose anymore like he used to. He’s just too busy! I caught a RARE, genuine smile on camera yesterday and I was THRILLED! Here it is!

The Monday Snapshot – BUSES!
Matthew’s favorite siting, in the entire world right now, is a school bus! If it’s parked, it’s awesome. If it’s moving, it’s even better. If there are more than one on the road, it’s life-altering 😉 We have a school just down the road from us that usually has 1-6 buses parked out back at any given time. We drive by to “see the buses” at least once a day. If we come to the “bus intersection” with Matthew in the car, he promptly instructs us where he wants us to take him. It’s quite cute, and we usually oblige him because – well – he’s cute 😉
The other day, the buses were parked in a way that I could get a picture of Matthew gazing at them, with them in the background. YAY! This obsession is documented for all time!

The Monday Snapshot – Booster Launch!
We had no food for dinner in the house tonight (how is that possible after a trip to Wh.ole Fo.ods yesterday?) and B welcomed me up from my nap with an announcement: “Let’s have an early dinner – I’m starving. The grocery store buffet (which is honestly quite good!) or Micky’s?” This was music to my ears as we hadn’t left the house all day. We had freezing ran the first half of the day and it just felt good to stay in. But it was time to get out.
All of us were in our “stay at home” clothes but we did not care. We packed up some fruit for Matthew, loaded ourselves into the car, and headed to dinner. This place is awesome for families – super good food (for bar food) and lots of room for Matthew to stretch his legs. BUT – they only have two low tables that accommodate high chairs and when we got there, a large party had put them both together. HMMMMM…. what to do? We decided to try out the booster chair for the FIRST time.
Big boy status!
We ditched the booster rather quickly and just let him sit on the bench with us, but it was fun to try and honestly, dinner went really well. Matthew ate more than he’s eaten while out to dinner in a long time (an entire large chicken breast, three thick tomato slices, a lot of cottage cheese, and some fruit). I wonder if the freedom made him more interested in coming back to eat his meal? Who knows, but it was great!

The Monday Snapshot – Rough Housing!
Last week, while Matthew was fighting a nap, we got to rough housing a bit on the bed. He started it, and I kept it going. So fun!
Holy hell, I originally posted this from my phone and it uploaded the FULL SIZE photo. No – you do NOT need to see a close-up of my pores! Sorry about that!

The Monday Snapshot – One More Christmas Present!
B has a wonderful business partner who he has actually known for 12 years now. They worked together when B first got out of college, and she recruited him to his current company three years ago. B loves his job immensely and we are grateful for her every day! She is a wonderful woman with an awesome family – the type of family you want to emulate. She and her husband (who is a nurse – do they get any nicer than that??) have two boys who are very tender-hearted. They LOVE Matthew and Matthew loves them. The boys (13 and 10) picked out a Christmas present for Matthew and would not allow their mom to give it to him until they could be there to watch him open it. So this weekend, we took Matthew to watch one of the boys play in a basketball tournament (OMG Matthew LOVED watching the boys play basketball!) where he got his gift afterwards.
Those boys picked out the PERFECT gift for Matthew! Turns out that they had one when they were his age and loved it for years – and just had to get it for Matthew. What did I tell you? Tender-hearted boys (even if the older one tries to act tough most the time – HA!)! When these boys see Matthew, their faces just light up and vice versa. It’s so special!
