My Life

This is my life.

It’s beautiful, busy, hectic, frustrating, joyful, fulfilling, crowded, satisfying, infuriating, emotional, healthy, energizing, draining, and for about an hour each day… It’s peaceful.

This is my favorite time of day…. Every day.

    • The Halloween candy is almost gone, which helped this week
    • On Sunday, Hottie took Matthew to the park while I napped Bryson. I got Bryson down and did a workout in our kitchen. Hottie came in 45 minutes later and said, “you got a workout in?”. Yep! I take it when I can get it, even if just for 35 minutes (I did the last 10 minutes after everyone was up and home)!
    • The baked goods from last week, and the Halloween candy, are plaguing me this week so far (Monday)
    • I used my treadmill at home for the first time in FOREVER! The saved weight was 174 pounds – 29 pounds ago. Holy shit! That gave me a wave of pride!
    • Right when I got on my treadmill, I cranked it up to 6.0, then 6.3, then 6.6, and finally 6.8 mph. I’ve never done that on the home treadmill and I kept thinking, “you’ve come a long way.”
    • I did hit 144.6 pounds and 22.5% body fat after my Saturday run, but I’m keeping the pre-run stats
    • I wore my skinny jeans for the first time!

A Big Sigh of Relief

It’s funny. Since writing this post two weeks ago, I’ve felt a tremendous amount of relief. Every day, I think to myself, “we made the right decision.”

I think that I was putting so much pressure on myself to want another baby, that I couldn’t step back and look at things rationally. Hottie and I wonder if our desire for a third was all due to us having embryos in the freezer. That is where Bryson came from, after all. We often referred to those embryos as siblings for our boys, rather than potential siblings. Talk about pressure!

I’ve come to realize that if we could have had babies naturally, that we probably would have chosen to stop after two children.¬† Of course we’ll never know for sure what we would have done, but I truly think that we wouldn’t have even considered a third.¬† Before we started trying to have kids, we were pretty settled on having just one child. That all changed after we were told we couldn’t have any kids without lots of help and science. Upon hearing that, I immediately knew I’d be happy (and LUCKY!) with one baby, but I also knew that I’d like to have two.

Never once did I think of having three kids, until, of course, we were successful on our first FET for Bryson (we were shocked). Then we started talking¬†about those 5 embryos that we never thought would remain after an FET¬† – we truly thought that we’d likely go through them all trying to get Bryson.¬† Surprise!¬† And with that pleasant surprise, we had a new conundrum in front of us.¬† The easy answer was, “we’ll try for a third!”¬† I think it was much easier to want a third baby than to figure out what to do with those frozen embryos.

Now, with two healthy kids and the fact that a third pregnancy would be treated as high-risk and could possibly be life-threatening, I’ve seen what everyone else has seen and I’ve come to the same conclusion that others, including Hottie, were hoping I’d come to.¬† Hottie was on board with a third, but always said, “It’s just that¬†we already have two boys who need their mother.¬† I need to talk to Dr. H again about this before I’m comfortable.”¬† I think he was like me – he wanted to want a third because that was easier than planning the alternative.

We’ll keep those five embryos for as long as we can.¬† They are precious to us – they are all we have if we do decide to change our minds, or if we need to change our minds for medical reasons for one of our boys.¬† I hadn’t really thought of that before and now, realizing that, I have much peace of mind keeping them right where they are.

A weight is lifted.  Our family is complete.  Our minds are made up.  We are able to move on in a fabulous direction, no longer wondering how things will play out.

The Monday Snapshot – I Can’t Quit!

It’s official… I’m hooked on this painting thing. It is so calming and so fun, I feel like I just got out of a great therapy session. I could do this once a week.

Matthew loves all sports and has quickly latched onto the two big Iowa teams. Iowa is his all-time favorite, but Iowa State is right behind the Hawkeyes. I went to Iowa, Hottie went to Iowa State. Because I furnish their rooms, he has a couple of Hawkeye decorations up that are quite bold and noticeable. But being the good Iowa girl that I am, I support all Iowa teams and only cheer against Iowa State when they play the Hawkeyes and honestly, I could care less who actually wins that game every year. So, it was time for some Cyclone power in Matthews room so I went to a painting session tonight to take care of that.

I can’t wait until he sees it in the morning!

(That’s my friend, K, who came with me. She painted hers for her husband for Christmas. Mine was supposed to be for Christmas, but I’m no good at holding surprises!)

  • Exercise/Activity: Focus this week is on adding back some cross training. The weather last week was perfect for running, but strength, stability, and endurance are important too. I will for sure do one weights class this week – I’ve missed that!
    • Sunday –¬†Morning run (53 minutes)-¬†19,000 Steps
    • Monday – Morning run (51 minutes) –¬†15,300 Steps

    • Friday – INSAN.ITY (50 minutes) –¬†14,800 Steps
    • Saturday – None (rest day) –¬†11,500 Steps
  • Notes and findings:¬†
    • This is a big week – I weighed¬†146 pounds Wednesday morning prior to exercise. I’m not sure what’s causing this since I’m eating like a champ.¬† I bet it’s the combo of strength and running
    • Matthew worked out with me on Wednesday, and that was fun!¬† Bryson was taking a long nap and they didn’t synch their naps, so I figured just do it while Matthew was up.¬† He watched and told me how hard I was working and would jump in and “work hard with Mommy!”
    • I focused more on hard exercise and did no walking, hence the fewer hours of activity this week.¬† It worked out fine though – 1.8 pounds down
    • I am now a very official size 8 in all brands and my natural waist is 28 inches.¬† My belly button measurement went down a half inch, as did my hips since mid-way testing
    • I’m feeling thin – I see it now in myself, which is nice.¬† There is nothing about my body in clothes that bothers me now.
    • I bought new bras – yay!¬† 34C – so I’ve lost but not in cup size.¬† YAY!
    • May favorite swim suit from my “thin days” is too big – I cannot wear it in the water or the bottoms will fall off.¬† I’m sad about this because I love it – it’s the suit I bought for our honeymoon.¬† First world problems, but still…. I’m sad about it
    • I bought my first pair of skinny jeans today.¬† I haven’t taken the tags off yet… I’m not sure about them.¬† Ask me in 2 pounds!
    • Next week should be good.¬† I had a total of 3.5 cupcakes this week and I lost 1.8 pounds.¬† I’m expecting another pound next week.
Goodbye, lovely swimsuit... the only swimsuit I've ever truly loved. :(
