All the Sun For You

The Monday Snapshot – Happy Boy!

It’s our first day on our own without B – FOR REAL. He went back to work at 7:00 AM, leaving me with two very needy boys. Matthew was a wreck this morning, missing his dad beyond comprehension. Bryson needed a nap but couldn’t sleep. It took me 1.5 hours to shower and do my hair. It was not good. When my neighbor texted me asking if we wanted to come down and play, I was so happy and relieved! E and I have play dates with our kids multiple days a week, and we’ve missed that with B being home on Infant Care Leave.

I was so excited to “get back to normal.”

And “back to normal” we were… or as “back to normal” as we could be.  Matthew was so happy to  be back with his best buddies, and I was happy to have some female interaction.  Even E’s vomiting infant didn’t phase me – I just loved having my normal company back!  When we left, we headed to Mc.D’s for my lunch (I’m bad, I know) and then home for Matthew’s lunch before his nap. He’s been taking shorter naps recently – frighteningly short for this house (1.5 hours) – but he did a full 2 hours today (before you roll your eyes at me, keep in mind he only sleeps 9 hours at night time).

While Matthew napped, Bryson did this… And it lasted long enough for me to turn on my phone and take several pictures!

Hi, there, I’m Courtney. I never planned to stay home with my kids, but I got sucked into motherhood when my first baby came into our lives after years of infertility and multiple rounds of IVF. His brother followed closely behind, something we didn’t plan on after having such a rough road with achieving parenthood the first time around. My boys are IVF cycle twins, conceived on the same day but born two years and one day apart (they were both transferred on the same day in October, but with two years between them). My boys are the best of friends and my husband is a terrific husband, father, and most importantly… friend. He fully supported my desire to stay home (“I just wanted it to be your idea and not mine, I totally want you to stay home and raise our kids!”) and encourages me in everything I do. I am a lover of projects, spreadsheets, fitness, healthy cooking and eating, crafts, selling my stuff on FB (HA!), and the outdoors. If I’m active, I’m pretty darn happy!

  1. Aww, cute!!!!! I remember the feeling from Avery’s first smile. We had a rough first few weeks and that smile really made it all come together!

I know what you mean about naps, Avery does not sleep well at night (at least not consistently) so she NEEDS her nap. She naps between 1.5 and 3 hours with 2.5 being the average. She is a disaster when she doesn’t get a long enough nap, because she will never catch up at night! Hope Matthew gets back to napping well, he was probably worried about missing time with his Dad, so he would wake up faster.

  2. Baby smiles! I just want to squeeze and kiss and smooch and nibble on those cheeks! Glad you are back to normal and hope it’s a smooth transition for everyone. I’m counting down the days to our “new” normal whatever that may be. Either me working full time (for a very short time), working part time, or staying home full time. I just want to know which way it will go so I can quit staying up at night worrying about it.

  3. Awww love those baby smiles!!! 🙂 I am glad you are back into your groove. I would be the same. I love routine and to know what to ‘expect’ more or less from my day… especially now as a mum. But that isn’t happening around here these past few months and it is killing me! I hope you 3 continue to get into a great day time groove together and enjoy that special time with B when he gets home from work each day 🙂

  4. Yay for big ol’ smiles! What a cutie he is. Routine is so key, glad you’re right back in it!

  5. Eek! That picture is absolutely adorable! I can’t believe he’s smiling already! So cute!

  6. It’s always so refreshing to get back into our routines. Aiden got to visit his friend E earlier last week and they LOVED seeing and playing with each other again. It’s amazing to think that our kids need outside stimulation just like us adults do. Glad to hear you are getting out and about again and that things are going well now that you are a solo parent during the day. Paternity leave goes by WAY too fast I think!

  7. SO sweet. Glad things are back to normal- I remember feeling so relieved when that happened with me.

  8. He’s getting so big! And look at that happy smile – love it!

  9. What a great smile!! I’m glad that you guys are back to your new “normal.” I’m sure it was wonderful having B home, but at the same time it probably didn’t feel “real,” and knowing that there was going to be another big change soon with his return to work can sometimes be worse!!

  10. Such an adorable smile!!!!
